Fight For Yourself
I have taught myself to create an alter ego to help me get through the day. My alter ego is a fighter. I know its silly, but hey it helps me get through the day!
I have this horrible habit of feeling “inferior” and “unworthy”.
Im not sure why…I think my parents treated my brother and I fairly equal, maybe it was TV? Either way, I just know that for myself and for many other people in the world, I just don’t think I deserve the good things in my life. Don’t worry, this is going somewhere….This may be feeling like I don’t deserve love, riches, relaxation, retirement – or even more simpler, like I don’t deserve the salary that I would love to ask in my job interviews!
One of the paramount steps to becoming a debt free PT is achieving a high salary. Having a high income can allow you to pay off debt, afford a house, take a vacation and more! But you cant get that high salary if you don’t ask.
I recently changed jobs. I needed the encouragement of my family and my boyfriend to get me through my salary negotiations. My family insisted that I counter my employers offer much to my fear. Although I felt awkward, all I had to do was simply ask if there was anything more they could do….next week they got back to me with a $3000 sign on bonus!
Among the many lessons I learned, the biggest lesson was that I needed to conquer my fear of negotiating. The reason why I needed to overcome this fear, was the understanding that once any company has offered you the position – they are invested in you. They spent hours of time reviewing your resume, checking your references, and interviewing with you. In addition to spending so much energy and time to find you, they also know that you are what they want and need for their business to succeed. All that means, they don’t want to loose you and start this whole process over again! I learned that I have the power not the employers!
The easiest way to becoming a debt free PT is to know that you are WORTH IT! You fought your way through physical therapy school, so don’t stop fighting now! Be confident with what you have accomplished and take this confidence to the negotiation table!
