The 5 Key Steps to Negotiating a Higher Salary and Keeping the Offer!

So you got your dream job!

Now you want negotiate to maximize your worth and starting salary. These are 5 keys to remember:

  1. Always be professional and polite.

  2. Convey your interest and desire for the position

  3. Remind them of why they REALLY want you

  4. DON’T give them a number, let them come up with a number and then re-negotiate. The last thing you want is to give them a lower number than they would have offered!

  5. Be prepared to pull out all of the stops, such as telling the company that you have additional offers or are also being recruited by other companies to show how valuable you are!

These are 5 simple yet affective tactics. I feel the biggest tip to get remember is that you are worth it! I struggle with this feeling of self worth every time I go into an interview. But then I remember that they NEED someone too, and that they are interviewing me as much as I’m interviewing them.
