THE #1 GREAT WEBSITE FOR STUDENT LOAN RESOURCES:

studentloans.gov

Studentloans. gov is the main website I use to track my student loans as well as to research specific rules on payment plans.   There is so much information, rules, and criteria that must be met with all student loan programs so its important to be well informed. Being well informed is the key to guarantee that you are in the best loan repayment program. If you are applying for any forgiveness programs -being well informed is a MUST so that you don’t find your self years down the road missing out on some serious savings and debt forgiveness!

I have to stress this: the #1 key to becoming a DEBT FREE PT is to do your homework.

Why I use this website:

  • Government created: The U.S. Department of Education created this website

  • Government Information: Using this website should better guarantee that you are reading the most appropriate information. If you are going off of other blogs or websites, they may be paraphrasing or editing out certain KEY facts.

  • It pulls your student loan debt automatically so you view all of your loans in one easy location

  • It easily displays your loans and how your loans would be affected by various loan repayment programs

  • Calculator: This website provides a FREE, yes FREE loan calculator.  There are other websites that provide loan calculators but they often require your information. This is a great way to not have to give up your valuable information and security.

I frequently call my loan servicer in addition to researching this website to make sure that I am in the best loan repayment program for my needs and career goals. I would highly advise that you do not trust your loan servicer alone. The student loan marketplace is complicated, and all I’m saying is that not everyone can know everything off the top of their head. I don’t trust my loan provider alone, so I do outside research to make sure that their advice follows the advice provided by the government and my peers.

ACTION STEP: Go to studentloans.gov and look around. Make sure that what they are saying is the same as your loan provider. Make sure that you know that you are on the best track for you. Your money is valuable, and just a couple phone calls and hours on the computer can mean less heartbreak for you years down the road when you find out that missed a form allowing you debt forgiveness.

I’ll be posting more in depth content on how to use this website in upcoming posts. So don’t forget to subscribe so you can get these great tips to help guide you to becoming a debt free PT!
